Jumping Rope To Lose Weight?

10/2/2020

We recently purchased a set of Crossropes and have been incorporating jumping rope into our fitness training every week. Jumping rope isn't isn't for little kids in gym class or out on the playground during recess. It can be an extremely difficult workout.

When I heard about Crossrope I had no idea there could be more to the average run of the mill jump rope or "skipping rope" as they say across the pond. There are actually jump rope competitions where teams all around the world show off their skills with basic or advanced techniques.

You actually do not need to purchase an expensive or top of the line jump rope, but where to begin when deciding what jump rope to add to your fitness equipment arsenal or simply to your gym bag?
  • Crossrope Get Lean  $99
  • Crossrope Get Strong $139
  • A standard jump rope for less than $5 would suffice, or a slightly better quality rope that might last a bit longer for no more than $20 is a safe rope to begin with. I actually own this rope and it has been great for the past year.
  • Speed ropes which are popular in Crossfit workouts are fun to use as well and a basic rope from WOD Nation is less than $20. However, Rogue a popular Crossfit brand sells a speed rope for over $100.
  • Lastly, weighted jump ropes claim to provide a more intense workout since you need to exert more energy when you swing the rope around. Weighted jump ropes can be 1 to 2lbs and typically you would want to begin with 1lbs as you adjust to jumping with a heavier rope.

So, can jumping rope help you lose weight? Can it make you stronger and fitter? What are the benefits, or risks? Should I adopt a jump rope routine to meet my fitness and/or weight loss goals?

In this video I discuss all how jumping rope is an amazing function to add into your workout routine.
