Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
BJJ "NO GI" grappling classSubmission grappling, also known as submission fighting, sport grappling, or No-Gi, is a martial art and competitive sport that involves ground fighting with the goal of forcing an opponent to submit using submission holds.
This type of grappling does not typically involve the use of a "gi," or traditional martial arts uniform, and is often associated with techniques drawn from folk wrestling, Judo, Greco-Roman wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Sambo. In addition to its physical benefits, submission grappling can also provide mental strength training and is considered an excellent activity for fitness and martial arts training. |
BJJ GI ClassBrazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art that emphasizes technique and leverage to enable a smaller, weaker person to defend themselves or another against a larger, stronger opponent.
BJJ involves taking the fight to the ground and using joint locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent. BJJ training includes sparring (known as "rolling" within the BJJ community) and live drilling to improve performance, especially in competition. In addition to its use as a martial art, BJJ is also a sport, a method for promoting physical fitness and character development, and a way of life. It has its roots in the parent art of judo, which was developed in 1882 and distinguished from older Japanese jujutsu systems by its emphasis on technique. |
