Frequently Asked Questions

Trying something new can feel intimidating, especially if you have never trained martial arts before. Don’t worry — we’ll walk you through everything when you arrive. This page will help you feel prepared before your first class at Rad Muay Thai & BJJ.

What should I expect during my first visit?

Your first visit is simple. You’ll check in at the front desk, meet our staff, get a quick overview of the gym, and then we’ll help you get ready for class.

Please arrive 10–15 minutes early.
This gives us time to check you in, verify your waiver, check your ID, answer questions, and get you settled before class begins.
Running late?
No problem — we’ll happily reschedule your trial for another day. For safety reasons, once class has started, we do not allow late arrivals to jump in.

Do I need to bring an ID?

Yes. Please bring a Colorado State ID to check in for your free trial. A passport is also acceptable.

Is the free trial for everyone?

Our free trial is intended for local residents who are considering becoming members at RMT.

If you are visiting from out of town, we kindly ask that you use our drop-in option instead of the free trial.

As a small business, we truly appreciate your understanding and support.

What if I’m a complete beginner?

You are absolutely welcome here. Many of our students started with no martial arts experience, no athletic background, and plenty of nerves before their first class.

Our classes are built to help beginners learn safely while still giving experienced students room to grow. You do not need to be “in shape” before starting. You just need to show up, listen, and put in effort.

The hardest part is walking through the door. Once you’re here, we’ll guide you.

What happens during class?

Muay Thai

  • Students line up on the mat by rank and height.
  • New students line up toward the back.
  • Kru Rad will bow everyone into class and begin the warm-up.
  • You’ll be told when to grab gloves, shin guards, or Thai pads.
  • Class ends with a group discussion and bow-out.

Cardio Kickboxing

  • This class has a more casual fitness-based feel.
  • Everyone meets on the mat to begin.
  • You do not need gloves until after the warm-up.
  • Your instructor will tell you when it’s time to gear up.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

  • Class lines up against the wall by rank and height.
  • Professor Rad will lead the instruction from there.
  • If you are new, we’ll help you understand where to stand and what to do.

What should I wear?

Muay Thai or Cardio Kickboxing

  • Wear athletic clothing you can move, jump, kick, and sweat in.
  • Good options include leggings, fight shorts, Muay Thai shorts, dry-fit shirts, or tank tops.
  • Avoid sweatpants, long basketball shorts, or anything with pockets, zippers, or velcro.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

  • No Gi: Rash guard or dry-fit shirt with leggings, shorts, or gi pants.
  • No sleeveless cotton shirts or tank tops for No Gi class.
  • Men must wear a groin protector or gi pants.
  • Gi Class: Students wear a traditional BJJ gi and rank belt. We have loaners available in a few sizes.

Do I need my own equipment?

We have loaner gear available for trial classes. If you decide to continue training, we recommend getting your own equipment for hygiene, comfort, and consistency.

Required gear is available in our RMT Pro Shop, but students are not required to purchase gear from us.
